Flight operations at Mumbai airport will be suspended for six hours on October 18

MUMBAI: Flight operations at Mumbai airport will be suspended for six hours on October 18 for runway maintenance work, the private airport operator said on Thursday, which could significantly impact passengers.
Mumbai Airport has two intersecting runways, the main runway 9/27 and the secondary runway 14/32, which handle around 800 flights per day, making it the second busiest airport after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The operator, Adani Group, said it “plans to close one runway from 11 am to 5 pm on October 18 for repair and maintenance work on both its runways” as part of a post-monsoon preventive maintenance exercise.
The Adani Group has a 74 percent stake in the joint venture that operates Mumbai Airport.
During the closure period, the facility operator will carry out major works like upgradation of Runway Edge Light, AGL (Aeronautical Ground Light) for Runway 14/32, it said.
CSMIA (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport) said that in collaboration with key stakeholders, it has already rescheduled flights for the duration of the runway closure to carry out the maintenance work smoothly.
