A year later and emotions are still high. The Milwaukee Dancing Grannies lost four members of their community when a man drove his car through the Waukesha Christmas Parade in November 2021. He killed a total of six people that day and injured nearly 70 others. Walking in this parade brings back memories of that fateful day. “Knowing that our four fallen are not here with us, but then we’ll go back to Waukesha knowing that’s where their last steps were,” said Jean Knutson, co-leader of the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies. The group plans to honor its fallen members on Sunday. “We have poster-sized photos of the four fallen, we’ll be joined by some family members,” Knutson said. Grandmas also plan to hang gift bags with “Granny Strong” and “Waukesha Strong” bracelets inside. It’s their way of thanking the community for their love and support. “It’s the love and support of the communities that gives us the strength to keep moving forward,” Knutson said. The group is a fraternity that has been bound by tragedy but has made strides toward healing. “We build new memories, but we never forget what we had,” Knutson said. 2022 Waukesha Christmas Parade Details: Waukesha Christmas Parade (waukesha-wi.gov)
